During initial operation of a boiler, the steam I vented through sky vent valves and vent silencers. This keeps the hot / wet steam away from turbine systems, which could otherwise develop high stress levels due to the temperature differential. Once the unit is running, the sky vent valves must provide excellent shut-off to maintain optimal production from the turbines. The vent system must be designed for noise and tight shut-off.
